Transition Mats

Transition mats, such as ShoreMax®, Scourstop and ShearForce, are flexible plastic units used to protect highly erosive areas. ShoreMax® is a dark green resilient rubber transition mat that accommodates drainage with 1.25” round apertures. It is often used above rolled erosion control products to prevent soil loss during vegetation and can also be used in applications where vegetation doesn’t occur. ShearForce mats provide immediate protection and an attractive appearance from the moment of installation, offering high flow erosion protection similar to large rock riprap.

Features:

  • Flexible Plastic Units: Transition mats are made from flexible plastic units that help bridge hard armor and other vegetated rolled erosion control materials, such as turf reinforcement mats (TRMs).
  • UV-Stabilized: Many transition mats are UV-stabilized, ensuring durability and performance in various environmental conditions.
  • Adaptability: Transition mats can be installed in various designs, including parabolic shapes, without the need for earth anchors.

Benefits:

  • Effective Erosion Protection: Transition mats provide effective erosion protection for highly erosive areas such as shoreline transition zones, channel bottoms, pipe outlets, and pedestrian pathways.
  • Vegetation Reinforcement: They help reinforce vegetation, ensuring long-term stability and growth.
  • Longevity: Transition mats are designed to last for many years, providing reliable erosion control and vegetation support.
  • Cost-Effective: They offer a cost-effective solution for erosion control compared to traditional methods like rock riprap .

Applications

  • Shoreline Protection
  • Embankment Stabilization
  • Stream and River Banks
  • Stormwater Channels
  • Inlet and Outlet Protection
