Off-Road Articulated Water Tanks: All You Need to Know Pt. 2

All our water tanks feature a strong steel construction with seams 100% welded for additional strength and require no welding during installation. Why is this important and what is the extent of damage that welding can cause on a water tank frame? How long does it take to replace a dump bed with a water tank? Where can you get replacement parts for your water tank? To find answers to these and other questions, read on.

What is the benefit of the no-welding required feature?

Who can perform the installation of a water tankWelding on the frame compromises its structural integrity and the resulting heat can damage the frame. But because no welding is required to install our tanks, the process is quicker and does not interfere with the integrity of the frame in any way.

This has an additional benefit and it lies in the way the tank is mounted.

To put together a water truck, you first need to take the dump bed off, then put the water tank on. As the installation process does not interfere with the frame, removing the water tank to reinstall the dump bed is just as quick and simple, all of which can be done within hours.

Who can perform the installation of a water tank?

We can offer in-plant installation at three locations or on-site installation.

When it comes to your water tank installation, you can choose between three options:

  • We have factories in three states, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Texas, so we can complete installation at any one of those locations.
  • Alternatively, we can make arrangements for an on-site installation by the Curry crew for a fee.
  • Lastly, we can ship it out as tank kits with easy-to-understand instructions. We have excellent export capabilities, and we’re only a phone call away if you have a problem and need support and guidance.

Normally, the customer’s mechanics are capable of installing the tank because we provide step-by-step manuals, so ship-out is most common, but contact us for your individual requirements.

Do shop mechanics need to be trained to perform installation?

Shop mechanics do not require training to perform installation, as long as they have our detailed instructions for reference. Curry Supply’s service department is available for any additional questions.

What is the average service life of off-road tanks?

The average service life of an off-road tank depends on the environment that it is in and the quality of water it is dispensing.

What service do water tankers require?

There are three basic service requirements:

  • Greasing the water pump once or twice a week, depending on usage.
  • Replacing the hydraulic filter as required.
  • Periodic visual inspection of tank mounts, hoses, fittings, and general condition.

What is the benefit of having multiple source components?

At Curry Supply, we are adamant about using multiple source components.

Why is this so important?

Multiple source components are readily available items from name brand manufacturers which you can easily purchase anywhere. You can obtain a product, be it the water pump, the hydraulic motor, the hose reel, the turret or the water cannon, from various reputable sources, which drives down their cost and makes their availability easier.

Many competitors have sole-sourced components, which may make it more expensive and difficult to obtain the replacement part.

What is the function of the cab-controlled gravity dump feature?

At Curry, a 6” rear cab-controlled gravity dump with splash plate is standard. This feature is unique to Curry and it allows customers to empty the tank 100%. The splash plate enables the operator to still go down the haul road and spray water the width of the road if the water pump or the hydraulics fail.

How does the center of gravity height of an articulated tank affect its performance?

Center of gravity (CG) is really important in articulated water trucks because they have the potential to be unstable. The lower the center of gravity, the more stable the water truck is.

Our innovative design enables us to deliver water tanks that address this safety issue effectively. Our tanks feature the lowest CG available in the market. In addition to the low CG, our articulated tanks have an integrated baffle system which controls water, therefore minimizing water movement.
