WattleFence

North American Green’s WattleFence is an innovative sediment control solution that combines the best features of traditional wattles and silt fences. This product is designed to effectively manage sediment-laden flows, providing a reliable and cost-effective alternative for perimeter control, slope interruption, and ditch checks.

Features:

  • WattleFence is constructed using a fleece of coconut fiber reinforced with a woven fabric, folded longitudinally to form a thick, multilayer product. This unique design results in a product that is 9 inches tall, significantly shallower than traditional silt fences, while providing equivalent performance . A 6-inch splash apron extends on the upstream side, further securing the WattleFence and preventing scour, eliminating the need for trenching.
  • The WattleFence forms an L-shape with vertical stakes at the fence and staples securing the apron. This configuration allows for easy handling and reduced installation effort. The system uses wooden stakes and biodegradable fasteners, making it more than 99% biodegradable. This means that the WattleFence can be left on-site at the end of the project, reducing costs associated with mobilization, labor, and disposal.

Benefits:

  • The WattleFence offers two-stage performance, capturing sediment and reducing turbidity at a significantly higher flow rate compared to traditional silt fences. During sediment-laden first flush events, the tail and multiple layers of fabric at the base of the system provide a higher level of restriction to flow, allowing for greater sediment capture through higher filtration.
  • This two-stage performance makes the WattleFence more easily crossed on-site by both workers and wildlife. Additionally, the product’s unique configuration provides value in shipping and storage, as it can be packed more efficiently than traditional wattles.

Applications

  • Construction sites
  • Roadwork projects
  • Landscaping projects
  • Any land-disturbing activities where there is a risk of sediment runoff
