Ditch Checks

Ditch checks are temporary barriers placed across drainage ditches or swales to slow down stormwater flow and reduce erosion. By decreasing water velocity, they allow sediment to settle out before runoff leaves the site. Common materials include rock, wattles, compost logs, or manufactured barriers, and they’re typically spaced based on slope and flow conditions. Ditch checks help protect downstream infrastructure and water quality, especially during active construction phases.
