Perimeter Protection

Perimeter protection is a key component of sediment control strategies used to prevent soil and debris from leaving construction or disturbed sites. These systems—such as silt fences, wattles, compost socks, and berms—are typically installed along the site boundary to intercept and slow runoff, allowing sediment to settle before water exits the site. They are especially important during early phases of construction when vegetation is sparse and soil is exposed. Properly installed and maintained perimeter controls help protect nearby waterways, reduce erosion, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. These measures are often used in combination with other best management practices (BMPs) to form a comprehensive stormwater pollution prevention plan.
